The original Fortin 5 speed has evolved during the past 20 years into a complete line up of gearboxes including 4 and 5 speed “H” pattern gearboxes and 4, 5 and 6 speed sequential gearboxes. McDowell Motorsports recently won the 2008 BITD points championship and “The King of The Desert” award for fastest mile per hour average among all classes for the entire season using the FRS5 transaxle. The most recent Fortin Transaxle wins include the 2007 Dakar Rally, the 2008 BITD Terrible Town 250, the 2008 SCORE Baja 500, the 2008 SCORE Baja 1000 and the 2008 BITD Vegas to Reno. The new off-road desert and short course truck gearboxes are currently being run with over 800 Hp. The transaxle is currently running up to 700 Hp in off-road racing, over 1000 Hp in recreational vehicles and over 1100 Hp in front-wheel-drive drag race cars. The Fortin Transaxle has continued to evolve to meet the demands of off-road racing, desert rally racing, endurance road course racing and drag racing around the world. In the early 1980’s Fortin Racing began developing the Fortin 5spd. The Hewland DG 300 with Fortin modifications quickly became the off-road racing industry leader as it allowed unlimited class teams to increase their engine size to 3.2 litre. A wide range of (drop) gear ratios in combination with the integrated oil pump and lubrication system allows customers to use the gearbox in several motorsport categories.Fortin Racing developed and converted the first Hewland Transaxle, originally designed for Formula and Indy Car racing, for off-road desert racing in 1971. Its 39 kg weighing compact design can handle up to 650 Nm of torque. Originally designed for use in the BMW E92 M3 ensures that the DG500 is a high performance gearbox which can also be used in other front engine, rear wheel drive cars with high capacity (turbo) engines. Customer specific applications are available on request. A range of standard off the shelf applications can be supplied, for example, for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Compared to the DG400, the DG450 distinguish itself by having an internal oil pump with lubrication system and easy changeable input drop gears to alter overall gearbox ratios. The DG450 gearbox is a high performance gearbox based on the DG400 which can be used in front engine, rear wheel drive cars with medium capacity (turbo) engines. Drenth Gearboxes can also design bellhousings for customer specific applications. ![]() A variety of standard applications are available such as BMW E30 / E36 / E46, Ford Type 9 and Honda S2000. Its reliable design has been used in several motorsport categories and can handle up to 500 Nm of torque in “Heavy Duty” specification. ![]() The DG400 is a high performance gearbox which is perfectly suited for use in front engine, rear wheel drive cars with medium capacity (turbo) engines. By using removable bellhousings and the availability of multiple end covers customer specific applications are available on request. ![]() A variety of standard applications are available such as BMW E30 / E36 / E46, Ford Type 9 replacement and Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S replacement. Due to its design, with internal oil pump and lubrication system, this gearbox can be used in several fields of motorsport. The DG350 is a high performance gearbox which is perfectly suited for use in front engine, rear wheel drive cars with small capacity (turbo) engines.
